Care Guide

A Zuha hijab is dyed and finished by hand. A little attention goes a long way. Here is how we wash, dry, and store ours in the studio.

Quick Care Rules

  • Cold wash. Use cold water on a delicate or hand-wash cycle. Warm water weakens the dye and softens the finish.
  • Air dry flat. Never tumble dry. Lay the hijab flat on a towel or drying rack away from direct sun.
  • No direct heat. Keep it away from radiators, irons, and long sunlight exposure. Steam lightly if needed.
  • Store folded. Fold loosely in a drawer or on a shelf. Avoid hanging, which can stretch the shoulders over time.

Modal Hijabs

Modal is our lightest weave — breathable, drapey, and naturally cool against the skin. It is best washed cold on a delicate cycle with a mild, pH-neutral detergent.

Because modal is hand-dyed in small batches, colours can be sensitive to alkaline soaps. We recommend avoiding powder detergents and anything with bleach or brighteners.

  • Wash inside a mesh bag
  • Use liquid detergent only
  • Reshape while damp
  • Steam, do not iron

Jersey Hijabs

Jersey has a gentle stretch that returns to shape after each wear. Wash it cold with similar colours, and avoid fabric softener — it coats the knit fibres and reduces breathability.

After washing, lay the jersey hijab flat to dry. Gravity pulls knit fabric downward, so hanging will slowly lengthen it.

  • Wash with like colours
  • No fabric softener
  • Lay flat immediately
  • Store folded, not hung

Hijab Crowns and Magnets

Our under-caps are made from the same modal jersey as the hijabs. Wash them cold with the rest of your Zuha pieces, and avoid high heat on the elastic band.

The magnetic pins should be removed before washing. Wipe them with a dry cloth if needed, and store them in their pouch to avoid scratching.

What to Avoid

  • No bleach. Bleach breaks down the natural fibres and alters the dyed shades. Even "colour-safe" bleach is too harsh.
  • No wringing. Twisting the fabric removes its shape and stresses the hand-finished edges. Press water out gently instead.
  • No hot dryers. Heat shrinks modal and damages jersey elasticity. Air drying is the only method we recommend.
  • No dry cleaning. The chemicals used in dry cleaning can leave residue and affect the softness of the fabric.
